How do we keep going as activists, as groups, as social movements? I have been working on this problem on and off in various ways over the years – at a personal level, in activist training, in meditation teaching and in an appropriately slow-burning research project. To date the latter has resulted in a paper on activist burnout and personal sustainability and an article about sustainability in social movements. I am currently working on a book and a chapter in the area – watch this space.
With friends on Clare Island, I am also developing a retreat on activist sustainability and engaged Buddhism. In the meantime, one remarkable approach in this area is that of the Catalan-based (English-language) Ecodharma project.
